Rick has a long history in business. For almost the first two decades of Rick’s working life he owned and operated a number of small businesses. Then after spending some time at university and taking all that he had learned, he, in the late 1980s, co-founded a company that grew in just a few years from zero sales to a turnover of almost $50 million per annum. He acknowledges that it was the learning acquired at the ‘coal face’ of experience that taught him most about what it takes to manage the growth of a small business into and through the medium-sized phase, and then the transition into a sound, well-structured, and thriving corporation. A significant factor in the growth of this business was Rick’s innate capacity coach and train people to realise far of their potential, on every level, than they may have thought they could. After over a decade he sold up and moved on. During the process of studying psychotherapy, Rick was invited to guide the transformation of a small/medium business, and mentor its executive, through the same kind of evolution he had experienced years before in his own company. This he did successfully. Rick’s own business eventually became a hybrid of private clinical work, corporate development, and executive coaching, training and seminars. His corporate clients retain him on a part-time basis, usually over 12-36 months, to mentor their transition from large business to small corporate.
